New Content Strategies to Try in 2016

What content strategies do you use? Do you build links and reach out to people? Or rely solely on PBNs? There is no right answer.. In this article I’ll share what I’m up to now. In terms of using a new strategy to build more value into my websites and attract more and higher quality links back to them. Let’s get stuck in… I’ve been building websites and promoting content for a little while. I usually go after the long tail type of searches. Very long tail in fact. Using PBNs and getting some social shares and a few other links here and there has been OK up until now. But I wanted to take my sites to the next level. Get better organic rankings, more authority links and improve the overall quality of my sites reputation. More on how I’m doing that in a minute… Real Content There are probably a lot of people who are out there using content writers to write hundreds of 500-800 word articles and pumping them out on their sites. Publishing regular content. I used to do that. I realised it didn’t really work quite quickly. In fact, it just made my sites look low quality. You can only publish so many 500 word articles that say the same thing, look the same and had 1-3 images and 1-2 YouTube videos in them before it starts to look like a technique. What to do next… I wasn’t sure what the right approach to take was. Should I concentrate on building better content? More links? Video content? Social shares? Then I stumbled across Backlinko.com and the game changed. Quality over quantity The pitch was to go for quality over quantity content. And that made total sense. Make link-worthy content and people will link to it. Then came the big question. How to make this link-worthy content? Enter the SkyScraper technique. I won’t try to explain it because you would be better off reading it from the horse’s mouth, so click the link above to do that. The results…. It’s early days yet still. I tested out the Sky Scraper technique on a small blog post first about quirky garden ideas. It showed good promise. The post wasn’t the best but out of it we got a few links, some social shares and made contact with a few people from other related blogs. The next step At the moment we are creating another piece based on the Sky Scraper technique. It’s about gardening design and is called The Ultimate Guide to Garden Design. I’m hopeful that it will take off as it’s over 6,000 words in length...

PBNs: Do they Work and Should you use them?

PBNs: Do they Work and Should you use them?

Private Blog Networks (PBNs) are widely used by SEOs to boost the ranking of other sites. But do they really work…? In this post I’ll reveal if they work or not and talk about how you can use them. But first, what actually is a PBN? To put it simply, it’s a collection of sites that are used almost exclusively for your own use. You have full control over them and can edit them whenever you like. They are usually domains that have good ‘value’…which means they have a nice backlink profile…which means the backlinks are from relevant and credible sources, no spammy sites like gambling, adult content, etc. The PBN has perceived value so is bought with the sole intention of using it to link to a site or set of sites that you want to rank higher in Google. I say bought because the domains need to have been around before. If they were brand new domains they would have zero value and no backlinks. Where to Buy a PBN You could try buying from a domain seller, such as GoDaddy auctions or NameCheap. The problem with this way is that there are a load of other people all doing the same thing so the costs are much higher. The Manual Approach You can also find them yourself. This takes time and effort but is something you can get a Virtual Assistant (VA) to do. The basic idea is this: Search the internet for sites that are relevant to yours and on those sites find links that are broken. The broken link shows us that the other site is no longer available and might be available for purchase. If the other site was a high value site that has just been left to expire, it might have good value. You can then purchase it for the cost of a normal domain. Here is a step-by-step Process to do it Step #1 – Cast your net You need to look for sites to scan. The higher value the better, but also there is less chance that the site will have broken links if it’s really high value and most people will have already scanned it. For example, BBC.co.uk would be great or any University site. Use Xenu link sleuth is a great tool to use for this. It checks any site’s links and reports back broken ones. Step #2 – Have a Butchers Once Xenu has shown up a list of broken links it’s time to take those links and check them out. Is the domain available? Use a bulk domain checker for this. Throw away all those that are not available...

Social Addicts

Hopefully you will remember that I have talked previously about special niches, imitating before you innovate and niche websites. In this post I would like to take a little time to talk about social signals that are becoming more and more relevant in today’s world. Why Social If you aren’t using social media you are missing out. Quite simply, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Google plus are dominating the volume of internet usage today. They have millions of users and each users spends a lot of time on Facebook each day. Reports are that people spend more time on Facebook than then do with their own pets… So it looks like are are becoming addicted to Facebook, with the average user spending around 40 minutes a day checking their feed. A reported 40% of the US population are active on Facebook each day, so imagine having that kind of audience to target with advertising. Never has it been so easy and cheap to advertise to such a large number of people from anywhere in the World The Cure to Our Problems…? People turn to the internet for all kinds of issues. For example, online dating starting to take-off many years ago and has only grown as we see the many benefits it has. There are lots of different sites out there. And we not only use it to meet people, we use it to try and research medical issues, such as what illness we have. Once we have checked out what medical condition we have, it’s the internet that we turn to again for the solution to our problem…We check Facebook and Google for prevention measures to our depression and in the form of supplements such as 5-htp for mood swings and protein for building muscle. Whatever we need, we seem to believe that the internet has the answer and in part it actually does…There are a lot of other people out there so no matter what issue you are facing there is bound to be someone else who has it and can offer advise or a cure to the problem. Even if there is no cure the very least you will find other people who are willing to talk and discuss the issue so that you feel a lot better about it and will not be alone. So, what that being said maybe you can start a niche site that helps people or helps people answer weird and wonderful questions. It might only be a small percentage of people who actually ask that question but a small percentage of a large number is a large number of...

Long Time no Post…

Hello and welcome back! It’s been a long time since I posted which is why I am saying welcome back. I’ve been busy with many projects, travelling around lots and generally having a good time. The projects I’m working on at the moment involve building websites and working with some gyms in Phuket, Thailand. The new business came about while I was at a training camp down there working on my strength and conditioning. In short, I was trying to get some shape back to my body after having been riding around India and Nepal for 5 months on a motorbike. On the Open Road As I just mentioned, I spent 5 months riding a Royal Enfield motorbike around India and Nepal. It was a crazy experience that was both rewarding and challenging. I loved the freedom of being able to ride around wherever I wanted and whenever I wanted. Riding on the roads in India is exhilarating, dangerous, stressful and a lot of fun. It’s like being on a roller coaster. India is very much like that, a place of extremes. Extreme poverty, wealth, natural beauty, pollution, over populated cities and remote rural areas. The highs and lows of the trip flow like the mountains in the foothills of the Himalayas. So, with all this time spent out travelling around I didn’t find any time to get writing on this site and sharing some, hopefully, useful information with you. After I visited India and Nepal, my next stop was Thailand which I will tell you about in the next section and get to the point of this post…Finally! Getting to the Point The point of this post was to speak more about the project I’m working on at the moment with the guys who run a boot camp in Phuket. It came as a little bit of a surprise to find that there were so many gyms in this area called Chalong on the South Eastern part of Phuket. Thailand is famous for Muay Thai and there is a long history of Muay Thai being taught there. The kids at school do it as a compulsory sport. So, on the back of this and realising that many fight fans from around the world would like to learn Muay Thai in a traditional way in Thailand, schools and gyms started popping up all over the place which catered for foreign visitors. The Street I call it “The Street” because it has everything you need on it. There are 5 gyms, ranging from exclusively Muay Thai ones, strength and conditioning ones and others which have a mix of Muay Thai, MMA, boxing, BJJ and fitness. On...

How To Get Inspiration For Niche Site Ideas

There are a lot of different ways to attack the internet marketing world today. Most of the solutions that you will find on the web today will tell you to build credibility with a long drawn out process. That could take months, if not years. It’s just too hard to build from the ground up, especially if you’re in a highly competitive industry. If you want to expedite the process of making a splash in any major search engine, you will want to seek out the opportunity to build niche websites. Niche sites rank #1 or at least in the top 3 for nearly every major search that is made online. No matter what broad industry you may be in, you will be able to narrow things down with relative ease, if you know where to find the right inspiration. The Importance of Niche Sites Finding inspiration for niche sites is not just about picking any old thing and running with it. You’ll want to look into several different points to get the right framework developed. Let’s take an example from a broad category, and narrow it down with a little bit of finesse, and you will see how you can take any large category and whittle it down into a very targeted niche. For the sake of argument, the following niche idea inspiration will come from books. The average affiliate marketer will not want to compete with big ecommerce retailers selling books. However, you can narrow down the focus and get serious income, and residual traffic generation from SEO and more. It can be done in a few simple steps. Pick a Genre – First and foremost, you want to pick a genre of books. For this sake, we are going to take on comic books. Picking the genre of graphic novels and comic books takes you down a peg in regards to the overall genre of “books”. This can be done with any department or idea, industry and more. Take a broad subject, and narrow it down to something smaller. Pick Another Genre Within The Original – Graphic novels are not enough, you’ll want to narrow it down even further, to just “female comic book characters”. This narrows the niche down to a precise component within the umbrella topic of comics and graphic novels. This narrowing, allows you to go with a niche site idea that will inspire blogs, writing, and sales through affiliate networking. Start The Site – Now that you have a narrowed focus, you will want to start building a site around the topic of “female comic book characters”, and if you wanted to...

What Makes you Special

What Makes you Special

I haven’t posted in a while because I have been quite busy with work commitments and have not made the time to write on this blog, but now I can so I will… Unique One aspect of writing a blog that you need to consider is what makes your blog so special? Or perhaps it’s what experience you have, what you are offering to readers or the information that you can provide to people. Maybe it’s none of those and it’s your writing style or an approach you take which is so different or unique. For example, Pat Flynn at Smart Passive Income took a completely new style of blogging when he started to share his monthly earnings with his readers. This was something that no one else at the time was doing even when the aim of a lot of the bloggers blogs was to help make people money online. If that’s what you are aiming to do, then knowing what kind of money you can make online is quite an important piece of information. Pat managed to open up in a very new and completely open and honest way and win the trust and support of his readers. Not only that, but the approach he takes throughout his blog is one of openness and honesty, which is a rare trait in the world of making money online. He doesn’t try to really sell you anything either, which is another great tactic. Your Specialty Can you think of anything that you have which is a different approach to how everyone else is doing it? Your USP (Unique Selling Point) if you like. Have a think about what everyone else is doing and how you can separate yourself from them by doing something differently. Blog Often I may not be holding up very well in terms of blogging often, so my readership probably has gone down a lot since my last post was many months ago…So, learn from my mistakes and blog often! Not only that but the search engines also like it when you blog often so your content will be shown much higher in the search...
